Jamaican Bay Leaf

Our beloved Bay Leaf oil is finally back! It has been impossible to source for several years now for reasons unbeknownst to me. What I do know is that its unique scent is irreplaceable in many perfume blends I’v created in the past. Especially those with a more “masculine” bent to them. Mace, Nutmeg and Allspice just don’t cut it. Nothing compares to my nose as a really good West Indian Bay Leaf oil for adding that “special” butch spicy touch to a blend. This is the oil that made the famous Bay Rum aftershave for men so popular. Green Man 9 watch out! For those of you unfamiliar with this particular essential oil, please don’t mistake it for Bay Laurel! Though it shares similar properties as Bay Laurel, It’s really a totally different animal. Always be sure to look at the Latin name first. Bay Laurel or Laurel Leaf as it’s sometimes called, is Laurus Nobilis and the Bay Leaf here is Pimento Racemosa. Bay Leaf is a phenol high in eugenol like Clove oil and Holy Basil. Hence its spicy aroma. Please use this oil with caution as it can be skin sensitizing. A little goes a long way both in scent and potency. Use a light hand. For the perfumer, It blends really nice with Vetivert, Patchouli, Cedarwood, Oakmoss, Vanilla, Lemongrass, Lime and many others. Have fun!
